Is it really a ''Super rare white high performance model'?

I think that should be "Super rare, white, High performance model". But yup, Aeros were the top of the line model and were like the s65's of there day, extremely fast and super comfy. The white was made in only 93-94 even though they made Aeros through 97. I think there were 103 Aeros in white. There are 60 something white ones from that year. These are numbers from the U.S.

Fun Fact: In it's day it was faster 50-75 than a Porsche Carrera 4 or a Ferrari Testarossa. It has huge turbo making it very fast! I think I found that it puts out 12psi one time but don't quote me on that because I'm probably wrong. It is front wheel drive, that's why the 0-60 times sucked, once you get going it fly's, but launching it is the problem.

Another fun fact: The seats are worshiped by most Saab fans. They are some of the most comfy seats, but still hold you in very well, They were made by Recaro.

Also, I love these cars and have searched for them for awhile now, and this is the lowest mileage one I've ever seen in the U.S. That's one of the reasons why I made my Dad buy it! (Too young to drive)

EDIT: Wow, didn't realize this was so long.

Saabnet.com is the best website. I am to young to drive, and hope for one of these as a first car. I found this one and showed it to my dad, and he ended up buying it, which was not hard as he is an enthusiast and had 4 of those before this one. I have two brothers as well, and my mom used them as mommie-mobile's for a while.

As for the car, I would highly recommend it. It's very fast and fun and is the best road trip car in eternity (umm... according to me). I have so many cool story's about this car, I'll write some tomorrow if you'd like, I'm tired now.

This car went to a nice older couple who were from Canada. Drove a Turbo X here actually!

Cool, I'm glad it found a good home. I'm keeping an eye on saabnet, but so far everything on there is (a) on the other side of the country, (b) automatic or (c) has super-ultra-mega-intergalactic high mileage. (Or a combination of two or more of these points).

As I'm sure you know, the automatics had a whole different setup altogether. About 25 less horsepower and torque. Out of the 5 my parents owned 1 of them was automatic, my dad told me it was a whole different animal. Don't give in to the automatics!
About the mileage thing though, as you probably also know, these cars will run forever. Knowing that, people drive them forever. That's why this 89,000 mile one was so crazy.

Kinja'd!!!0

Heh, don't worry, I'm not giving in to the automatics! I've only ever had one automatic car in my entire life and that was enough. It's kind of a shame though because there's a '93 9000CSE for sale that's about 20 miles from me with just 62,000 miles on it, Grandma-owned, etc - but it's an auto with traction control. The two likliest candidates I've found so far have 200K miles and 176K miles respectively, but a lot of service history/work receipts on both.

That mileage doesn't sound that bad. This one was a '94 (really a '93.5, that whole deal with it coming out early) with TC and it's really not a big deal. We had it for about 8 months (there was nothing wrong with it my dad buys and sells quick), and the TC acted up 4 times, I think. It's usually overnight and fixes itself. If it really bothers you there's a kit to get the TC taken off, which I'm pretty sure my dad sold with car. Mega kudos to you on the automatic thing, though!

The car is honestly so fast, just this one story I wrote a couple weeks ago about this cars sums it up:

That Saab had 225 horsepower and 220 foot pounds of torque. In 1994. It also had Front Wheel Drive and a big turbo. It was said to be underrated and have around 270 for horsepower and torque. Because of the Front Wheel Drive, it was impossible to launch, but once you launched it it was very fast. In its day one of the main advertisements was that it did 50-75 faster than a Ferrari Testarossa, and a Porsche Carrera 4. My dad has had a number of cool cars over time ('79 Trans Am to E39 M5 to Maserati Coupe) and I can passenger seat butt dyno tell you it's very fast. There was this one time he went to merge onto a highway and forgot he was in 4th instead of 5th (so it was already on boost, and he's no beginner at manual, just a once and 1000 time kind-of-thing) and hit it; I thought we were taking off. It pulled sooo hard. It accelerated very very fast, too.

Nice! That sounds exactly what I want! I just moved back to the US from England and my car over there is a '92 VW Scirocco GT2. It's been a really great car and I love it, but it is NOT fast and I really want something with a lot more go in it!

Heh - I learned to drive in England and most of our cars there are manual. (If you pass your driving test on an automatic over there, then you're not licensed to drive a manual, only an automatic). It's kind of the flipside of the US: my mom drove her ancient 4-speed-manual Peugeot for about 25 years until it was falling to bits and the heavy non-power steering got too much for her so we got her a JDM-import Honda Logo which was tiny and automatic (and insanely fast, IIRC it was referred to as a 1.3 but was actually 1380cc). She was SO terrified of the automatic as she'd never driven one before and kept moving her hand down to the lever all the time, thinking she needed to shift! My only auto car was the 2nd-gen Mazda RX7 I had while I was in school here in the US, which I got because I moved off-campus, needed a car immediately and it was being sold cheap by my friend's boyfriend's cousin who was moving abroad (so I knew where to find him if it turned out to be a lemon!)

Of the two 9000s I found so far, the 200K one is factory non-TCS and the other one I haven't asked about yet. I've been told it's the big thing to watch out for (funnily enough, all the UK-based Saab enthusiasts tell me to check for rust around the windshield too, as that's apparently a big 9000-killer in the UK, especially with cars that have had the windshield replaced, but doesn't seem to be so much the case here.)

The 200K one is much closer to me as I mentioned, it's an Aero and it is Imola red with the standard 3-spoke wheels. The other one is a 9000CS, is black and has what I think are the Anniversary alloys which I like better (I'd also prefer black to red) - but it's in Virgina which is 1600 miles away. The black one has been chipped and the turbo runs full boost. Both seem to have a lot of receipts and maintenance history but the red one seems to have more (and a rebuilt turbo).

Sounds like your dad has great taste in cars! Lucky you - how long til you can get your permit and drive one of them?

I turned 14 in December, so I got until 16. It's kind of a long way off. I'm definitely very fortunate to be able to ride in such special cars, I could be in a Camry!

I wish that we were like the UK here with the manual thing, but to many lazy people here, I guess.

That sounds like a cool Aero, I like Imola Red, it would be my second or favorite color. IIRC our Aero came with the Aero Wheels, being that it's a '93.5, but a previous owner actually put Super Aero's on it. The Super Aero's are slightly wider and deeper. I'm a sucker for deep wheels, and love the Super Aero's!

The 9000 CS would be super cool, being that it's tuned a bit. The sad thing is that in the Aero's, you can run so much more power than stock without breaking to much, so if you were to go to a forum I bet you could find one putting out 400whp in 3 minutes. It would be a cool car to start with, and since it's putting out about the same numbers as an Aero, over time you could buy some Aero skirts, fenders, etc. Or just leave it visually stock because sleepers rock. My dad actually had a stock E30 M3 engine wise, except that it was turner chipped, and a stock e39 M5 that was chipped. Chips are very cool, but I couldn't tell you the difference in feel vs. stock because I didn't have either of those stock. Here is a link to the e30 when it was for sale.

Two years'll go far quicker than you think - the older you get, the faster the thime goes... I think here in Colorado they let you start drivers' ed at 14.5 - and in the UK you have to be 17 to take lessons and 18 to take the driving test. That said, I have to take the test again next week because my US license expired while I was in the UK and they won't let me drive here on my UK one!

That is a really nice E30 - when I started car shopping here just before I left England, there was a 4WD E30 325ix for sale which I was interested in, but it was sold by the time I got here - they go quickly in these parts because everyone wants interesting 4-wheel-drives. I have never seen so many Subarus in one place ever.

The CS I'm looking at is currently the 5th 9000 down on Saabnet (in Cross Junction, VA). The Aero is on Denver Craigslist. I noticed the different wheel widths - you're right, depth always looks good and the Super Aero wheels look much better than the standard ones with that extra bit of depth (3-spoke wheels always make me think of base-model SN95 Mustangs). I like the red too, but I've had several red cars and this time round I kind of want something a little understated. I like the sleeper look for these!

When I came over to the US for school, I was the only one of my friends who could drive stick. I remember one of them saying "It's way too much effort. You gotta move your arms all the time!"

I guess I'm moving to Colorado!:P. Is it the written test or the driving test?

I used to love the E30 ix's, until I heard the 4wd isn't great and everything rusts. Now I just like them! Haha

That 9000 is beautiful! It's got the two main parts of the Aero, too. 1. The seats, my Dad claims they're the best seats he has ever sat in and I would definitely agree with that. 2. The performance, and with all the other upgrades it'll probably outperform a stock Aero! Looks like a sweet car, good luck!

That's actually a good question, I think it's to get your permit, the rules are here: http://coloradodrivinginstitute.com/new-laws.html but I kind of can't make head or tail of what you can get when!

I'm definitely over the ix idea. That was before I got here when everyone was telling me I needed AWD. Turns out that's only the case if you plan to ski, which I don't and the roads here are about 100% more paved than people were making out! Plus I want something with a little more space inside. If there was an ix wagon available I might be tempted, but I bet a whole lot of other people would be too!

I'm about to ask for some more pictures of that 9000 and if they look good, I may have to fly out to Virgina to check it out; it's definitely the one I like best so far... It seems to be missing the headlamp wipers though, which is kind of odd, but not really a big deal unless it's because it got hit in front or something like that.

Our 9000's headlight wipers never worked anyway, haha. Sound like a good plan and possibly a fun road trip. By the way, not to bring up that E30 to much, but my dad flew to NC and bought that M3 then drove back about 550 miles to CT where we live. The only thing he did is that the sunroof seals were awful, and it made an annoying whistle... he didn't make it 25 miles because of this. Stuck napkins in the seals and drove it all the way home!

Yeah, AWD definitely is not a necessity. Good luck on your test, I'm sure you'll pass. It's not your first rodeo!

Thanks! Managed to suppress all my bad driving habits and passed. Scariest thing was that the car I was using was a tiny automatic Nissan Versa! The steering was so light compared to the non-power-steering/FWD setup I'm used to that when we pulled out of the parking lot I put too much strength into it and almost U-turned by accident!

Funnily enough I saw an E30 M3 this morning. Metallic wine red, looked good except for some terrible alloy wheels!

So now I actually get to buy me one of these Saabs and drive it! This is the other one I'll probably go look at: http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/4342163986… . What makes me wonder a little about this one is that they guy obviously knows what he's talking about and has had a lot of work done on the car, but the pictures are terrible!

That Aero looks really nice. It's also the best written Craigslist post I've ever seen! As I said, I love Imola Red. What's the worst that will happen if you look at it? In terms of price, ours was a 94 Aero just like this but with 89,000 miles. We sold it 6 months ago for $6,000. I don't know how he can say its a non-TCS car if ours was the same year and was... Thanks! My boss' wife passed her test last week so I was thinking damn, I hope I don't fail on some tiny detail, I'll look really bad!!

The fact that this one's nearby is a big plus and I do like that shade of red, even though I was hoping for a darker colour. Plus I only just noticed it has Super-Aero wheels rather than standard Aero which is good. It is a really well-written ad, but like I said, given how well-written it was, I'm surprised he used such non-detailed photographs (the car even sticks off the side of one of them; and I've viewed that ad about 20 times and only just noticed the wheels!) so I hope he's not hiding anything. Even with the amount of work it's supposed to have had, I think $4500 is a little steep for a 200K mile car, especially if yours went for $6000 with less than half that mileage and the black one on Saabscene is going for $4K with about 25k fewer miles (I know they'll go basically forever but still...)

IIRC, the TCS was an option on all models in 1994 and became standard on the Aero in 1995. If so, it's possible yours had the option and this one doesn't.

I also found this one: http://www.parkavelotus.com/used/Saab/1995… which looks really sweet. Too bad it's all the way in NJ!!

Don't take my word for it, but before we got our Aero we looked at an Aero and I think an Audi urS4 and both cars were misrepresented and the dealer was sketchy. That was in Staten Island.

I bet your right about it being an option though. That is an odd add and it is in good shape. I would agree with you on the price. I'm sure people everywhere will love the red, but it is your car...

As for the Super Aero's, it's very hard to see which are what in pictures. I really like the Super Aero's as I said. Some random guy commented on this post on Sunday telling me how much he loves the Super Aero's. It's like a 4 month old post so I don't know how he found it ahha.

Interesting you should say that - there's some ad widget that keeps popping up while I'm surfing and showing me that dealer's 9000s (they have several) and when I click through there are dealer reviews and they aren't very good, so maybe it's the same place. They seem to have been a Saab dealer and have quite a few in inventory.

I'm going to request info on that car and see what they say, but will tread carefully - when I looked through the pictures more carefully, I noticed the seats are pretty worn and the Carfax shows that while it may be one owner, it's been in inventory there (and at other "Park Avenue" dealers for well over a year. I also don't like how they don't have descriptions of the cars, just a list of features. That's way less relevant on a car this age than some history!

Thanks, I'll try that. Ironically I produce websites for a living but I have never had the time to actually figure out exactly how Kinja works! When I got signed out of the other account and wanted to come back and reply to you, I actually couldn't find the thread through the on-site Jalopnik search, I had to go and google "Saab 9000 Aero for sale again Jalopnik"! I also didn't even know why the grey was there or how to get out of it, so thanks! What's the difference between Authors and the rest of us? I'm assuming it needs to be a post that's cool for sharing to the main page?

So red car viewing is at 4pm today, but yesterday I was told that there's a huge red flag in the ad. A guy I met through work (and who owns so many cars he's actually lost count!) has a friend who is a Saab fanatic (and owns so many Saabs he's almost lost count). He showed him the ad and he said to warn me that apparently over-riding the APC system so the turbo runs full boost all the time means there's nothing to stop the engine from pinging and this can cause major damage. I did a little googling and apparently there was a car some guy on either Saabnet or one of the other forums wanted to buy back in 2008 which had had this done, and even though it was immaculate and had low miles (well under 100K), making the turbo run full boost all the time had caused rod damage. The seller is also being oddly pushy - he asked several times if I'd be coming prepared to buy and drive home today, even though his ad says he's in no hurry to sell. I also find it slightly odd that even though he seems to be a Saab guy, he has advertised only on Craigslist and not on Saabnet. Anyways, whatever happens, it should be interesting...

If this one doesn't happen, another one showed up on Craigslist last night. The upside: 137K miles, Super-Aero wheels and LeMans Blue paint. The downside: it's in Seattle... (although I'll take Seattle over NJ!)

Haha! Shows what a maze Kinja is! I used to have to do that (I used Oppositelock instead of Jalopnik) because there is no search box on mobile. Someone told me to use oppositelock.jalopnik.com/search which is a blank page with the search box. As for the author vs. commenter thing, if you are an author you can write things on the main page, and a commenter can only comment. I cannot make you an author, but can share a comment or post by you. If you want authorship (some people don't, I'm not sure why) I can make a post saying "can we get this guy authorship" kind of thing and someone will click their mouse a couple times, and viola! It's really not a big deal and you dont't have to make some big post or something.

The turbo thing makes sense, tuning is never good unless you build everything up. 137k is still low for these cars, and that sounds like a nice color. Well good luck!

Hi - yeah, I'd love to be an author if you can ask for me - thanks! Kinja is a total maze - I had no idea that's why so many of my posts were greyed. Totally stupid, but I actually half-thought the authors of the articles/posts I was commenting on had to go approve all the comments and I kept thinking "surely people do not have time to approve all these comments, there are thousands of them..."

So, red 9000 was disappointing. To start with, there was a lot more cosmetic damage than the guy had mentioned. He said there was one dent on the front fender, "a little gunk" on the rear wheelarches and a small spot of rust by the sunroof. Well, there was also a dent in the door, crazing and cracking in the paint all along the top of the front bumper (I think as the result of a low-speed front hit), the tail panel under the tail-lights was out of alignment (probably from a rear hit) and the rear light lens that goes along the trunk was cracked. There was some nasty rust at the leading edge of both rear wheelarches and the bubble by the sunroof was about an inch and a half diameter and looked like it was taking hold. There was also a chip in the windshield.

The interior was in really good shape, except the top of the dashboard had a huge (and I mean HUGE) 3-way crack in it and for some reason he had pulled the trim from the A-pillars, one of which he said had damage and needed "a glue repair". The CD player didn't work either. Also, I tried pressing the ACC Auto and <-> buttons together which is supposed to make it run through the testing cycle, but nothing at all happened. I'm not sure if I was doing it right though. (The number 82 - the temp at which he'd set the climate - just stayed right there on the little screen.)

However, the real alarm bells went off when we went for a test drive - the guy was like "How about I drive it out onto the road and that way I can get it warmed up for you." I had noticed that the motor was already warm when we got there (to the point where I couldn't take the coolant reservoir cap off to check it), so there was definitely some reason why he very much did not want me driving the car from cold.

The shifter juddered pretty badly under acceleration and deceleration so the motor mounts are likely shot and he hedged when I asked him about the APC over-ride saying it was done before he got the car 2 years ago and had "never given him any trouble". Then when I finally drove the car it didn't feel like it pulled very strongly at all and it really didn't feel tight. We think there's definitely turbo issues. Brakes seemed OK.

The seller also said he'd have to "look out" all the receipts for all the work that had allegedly been done on it and all the spares that went with it as neither were readily available so I couldn't see them. He was a young guy so he could just be disorganised, but personally if I'm showing a car I get the paperwork together and have any spares in one place so buyers can see them.

I will keep looking! This is definitely not a $4500 car, I'm not even sure if it's a $1500 car! I just looked at the photos of your Aero again and yours was a WORLD away from this car! (Sad really because the Imola Red with black seats did look really good on it!)

On the plus side, I got to ride there and back in a '93 Mercedes 500E...

Okay, I'll see if I can make it happen, shouldn't be hard.

Well, as my dad always says "everything happens for a reason". That's truly a shame, but better now then in 2 weeks that everything stops working properly. I'm glad you had the sense to walk away, as some people wouldn't. I definitely miss our Aero, and was sad to sell it. If it was my decision we wouldn't have, but hey, what can you do when it's not yours. The 500E is a very cool car too with a cool story. Best of luck on that blue one!

Thanks! I've been crazy busy with work, but am probably going to see the blue car next week. I've been chatting with the owner, he used to run a Saab-Isuzu dealer and bought the car from Moe's which is a well-known Saab specialist in Seattle. It's had 3 owners including him and originally came from New York. He also has a green one with far higher mileage. It sounds good, fingers x'd!

Cool! Do you live close to the blue one? Sounds like it can definetly be a quality car. I bet many people would consider 137k low mileage for a 9000. Years ago my parents had a base as base gets 900. My mom called it the armadillo because it was so slow, but built and safe like a tank. The 9000 Aero's are definitely safe for their age, but they are very fast. If you look up the 0-60 on a 9000 Aero it would say high sixes (I think). Don't listen to that, it's traction limited. It could most likely spin the front tire through first and probably into second. If it hooked off the line I bet it could do in the mid 5's.

Heh. Kinda depends on your definition of "close".... It's in Seattle, so about 1300 miles away. There are a couple closer, but they all need work and the closest one is actually in Lawrence, Kansas, so still not exactly close (600 miles away). That one needs the TCS system fixed, idles low, has some rust and has 208K miles, so not really what I'm looking for.

I've heard they're both safe and fast - IIRC they're faster from 40-60 than the contemporary Ferrari Testarossa and Saab used that in the ads.

ROADTRIP! Yeah, definitely worth getting the right one in my opinion. Are you going to drive it back or trailer or what?

I personally love and use that fact frequently. I thought it was 50-75, but oh well.

On a side note, the roadtrip thing made me think of my dads e30 roadtrip, and that car is currently up for sale. It's right here if you're curious:

Just working that out at the moment - depends how much I'll spend on gas vs how much I'll spend on having it trucked.

Nice M3! I actually saw one of those here this morning, same colour I think. For some bizarre reason, the license plate read "HOTMESS" - although the car looked pretty nice, so maybe it referred to the driver (who I didn't see as it was parked)!

Kinja'd!!!

Mission accomplished!

Just got home after 24 hours of driving. I will most definitely write up the trip - it was quite an adventure. All smooth as can be until I got to Laramie, WY about 140 miles from home. That was when the "adventure" part of things began.

It involved two sections of I-80, one with a generous coating of ice (let's just say it's a good job that this car DOES have TCS!) and the other with a generous coating of snow and semis; a five-mile long traffic jam of them and unlucky car drivers, which (thanks to sat-nav!) I had to get out of TWICE, the first time with a U-turn, the second with a 3-point turn on a snow-covered on-ramp and a drive back up it the wrong way...

(This was responsible for much of the highly-decorative road grime in the picture...)

WOW! Congrats!

Sounds like you've already snow hooned it a little! Now I'll just saw what everyone else will say when they see the pictures "AHH GET THE SALT OFF BEFORE IT RUSTS AHHH". Haha. I'm glad to hear you didn't get caught up with someone sliding into you with all the ice or something like that. That's definetly lucky about the TCS, and if you ever want to spin the front tires just floor it in first, which accidently happened in ours even with TCS.:)

Beautiful car and I can't wait for the write up!

And for now, I leave you with this:

Jeremy Clarkson saying that more than 170 from FWD is basically insane. The 9000 Aero's were rated at 225 horsepower and 220 lb-ft of torque, but were said to be putting out around 270 for both.

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5-w8Ne…

My brother also said that Clarkson was quoted as saying "more than 220 horsepower front wheel drive horsepower is to much", but I can't seem to find that.

That was hilarious! I love how he described it as half Vauxhall Vectra and half Saab 9000 - I was thinking when they showed the interior for the first time how similar the dashboard was to mine!

I am a huge fan of powerful front wheel drive cars - I used to have one of these:

Kinja'd!!!

FWD system designed in about 1963. Mine was the 1.3 but with twin-webers it was still insanely fast. It had a dog-leg 1st gear which you almost never used and would out-accelerate an E36 3-Series. It also had incredibly slow and heavy steering because the front axles had been designed for use with the 1.6 version and needed to be extra thick to cope with the power. It also had fantastic torque-steer, especially in reverse. All you had to do was tilt the steering wheel slightly, let go of it and let the clutch out slowly and it would reverse itself round a corner.

Now we are cleaner after a trip to the car was this morning:

Kinja'd!!!

I made sure they jet-washed the underneath too to make sure no salt or other crap remained. Unfortunately, while the wash got rid of all the dirt, it also got rid of about 98% of the paint on the Saab-Scania badge on the rear hatch, so I will have to get a new one. I got two boxes of spares with the car, so there might be one in there, but if there isn't it seems that in the UK they are about half the price they are here, so I'll get one there and have my mother send it to me.

Kinja'd!!!0

Haha, that sounds like a fun car to me!

That's pretty cool that you can buy parts from overseas too! While that didn't happen to our Aero, many Saabs have faded or awful badges if you look around.

So what's the plan now? Are you going to daily it? This is your only car, right?

Kinja'd!!! Baskingshark > A3R0
04/29/2014 at 17:55

Kinja'd!!!0

Yeah, I'm thinking the badge paint must be a real weak point. The red car I looked at had no paint left on either the front or rear badge. I wish I'd known this was going to happen, I'd have bought those stick-on protectors. One odd thing - the badge on the rear has the Saab-Scania logo, but the one on the hood just says Saab, so I'm not sure if that's original or not for a '95. There are a couple of 9000 CS's in the Denver pick-n-pull, so maybe I'll see what shape those badges are in if they still have them.

It is my only car, and I think I'm going to semi-daily it. As of right now, the company I work for is based in Boulder, the building we're in has no parking and public parking is obscenely expensive, around $14 per day. So what I plan to do is drive to work 2 or 3 days a week and bike on the other days, although the car will then get used to drive to the gym/stores after work and then for fun on the weekends.

Next order of business is to get the oil changed and the parking brake adjusted (it doesn't hold very well!)

Kinja'd!!! A3R0 > Baskingshark
04/29/2014 at 18:40

Kinja'd!!!0

Yeah, a parking break might be a tad important. Haha

As for the badges, ours was a '94 and had 2 badges that were the same. I've never been to a pick-n-pull, but they sound really cool.

That's super awesome that you'll be actually driving it though. I'm tired of hearing things like "Low miles, I can't drive it". That Saab will run to 300k and 137k is low for those.

Kinja'd!!! Baskingshark > A3R0
04/29/2014 at 23:06

Kinja'd!!!0

Heh - bear in mind that the first thing I did after buying it was drive it exactly 1,308 miles, from the Mazda dealership the seller worked at to my apartment complex, so it's at 138.5K now ;)

Right now, the tech company I work for is bidding to get into an accelerator/incubator program. If we do, we will stay in the current office, but if we don't we'll move elsewhere, possibly to somewhere too far to bike to and with free parking, in which case it'll get driven to work even more!

I think my hood badge must be a replacement from a later car made after GM bought Saab and it split from Scania, probably a 9-5 , as it looks like most 95-98 9000s have Saab/Scania badges on the hood. Coincidentally, while I was image-googling, I came across this dealership: http://bouldervalleymotors.com which I hadn't found before. They're located very near me and in their sold inventory listings they have no less than three 9000's, all with low miles and all looking very clean. None are Aeros, though, and only one was manual.

Definitely the best roadtrip car I've ever been on a roadtrip in so far! It's going to our local Saab specialist, East of Sweden, tomorrow to get the oil changed and fix the parking brake (I say "fixed" - it does work most of the time just not if you pull it up too high!) so I'll see what they say about the badges.

The seats are awesome. Got it back yesterday afternoon with new oil and a working handbrake. They looked it over and found a bunch of little things that could do with fixing (I don't have the list to hand, but nothing on it is urgent or expensive, and IIRC the total with labor came to about $1K). They also get repro badge stickers - apparently it's not paint on the badges, it's some sort of coloured film that sticks onto the chrome backing.

I'm aiming to post some pictures and my road trip story on oppo this weekend.

Beautiful car!!!

Worth it IMO. I’m still half a year from even being able to drive, but my whole family still loves these. My mom had 4 when me and my older brother were young, and my dad had a couple (in my family we’re constantly flipping cars every 6-10 months or so).

My brother (190e30 on here) even said he still might be interested in a one owner, 95k mile 9000 aero a couple hours away; for sale. My dad also said it looked nice. Point is, once you drive one of these cars they’re forever with you, or at least in your thoughts. It’s one of those cars . Not that I would know because I still can’t drive...:(.

Not sure how far you went back in my profile, but I actually found this white 9000 for my dad and sent him the link. I’m just a bit of a Saab fan myself. (Sarcasm... Very big fan)

The good thing is that these cars run past 200k miles. Over engineered to the max. On the other hand, that attracts tuners who start pushing 450whp, which imo is “ruining” a classic. It’s still cool, and I’m all for tuning. However, theyre hurting a part of me inside. Just such great cars stock...

AND THE SEATS!!!!!

Considering my dad flips cars every 6-10 months, and has had 2 cars for a long time, he’s been in a heck of a lot of cars. He still claims these are the best seats ever.

I’m assuming yours is manual?

Yup. My father worked at an Alfa Romeo / Saab dealership as their service manager in the late 80s / early 90s. There’s pictures of me holding Saab 900 and 9000 model cars as a small kid. I’ve always wanted one, but when I moved from outside of Philadelphia to Omaha fifteen years ago I was disappointed to see very few Saabs tooling around town. I’ve owned nearly every other car I’ve been obsessed with; a V70R, a few BMW e21s and e28s, an Alfa Romeo Milano. Hell I even had a grey market beat up Jensen Interceptor for a few months. But the elusive Saab 9000 remained a distant idea.

A few weeks ago I saw this in an open garage in a section of town I rarely visit. It was dusty and I immediately turned around and approached the house. A woman in her early 50s answered the door and was very sweet. She said she bought it new 20 years ago but hasn’t been able to drive it regularly for fifteen years because of her knee and so she drives her automatic 2007 S60R . I realized the 9000 was a manual. She told me she takes it out once a year to get the fluids changed, but it’s just too much of a hassle to drive it regularly.

Despite our 20 year age difference and the fact that we just met, I seriously considered proposing to her at that exact moment. Instead I decided to leave my number in case she wanted to sell the car. I got a call the next day. She said it needs a new water pump and window regulator but that I could have it for $750. I was there in 20 minutes with cash in hand. Manual with the Harmon Kardon audio. Fast, sounds great, and only one door ding. The water pump has a slllllow leak and I will probably be fixing it this weekend.

All in all I’m glad to be a member of the Saab family FINALLY.

Thank god... Automatics were down horsepower and awful. Both my parents prefer manual, but one of my mom’s 9000 aero’s was automatic. Apparently it’s just an awful driving experience, and there is a noticeable difference of less boost.

I have pictures of me with the 9000’s as a kid too! The real ones though ;) hahaha. Something like this , but that’s my older brother... and an Audi!
